HYDERABAD, FEB. 3. Water supply to the Maharajgunj Assembly constituency is set to get a fillip, with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) grounding the works on bringing Krishna water to it.

Poor supplies always plagued the constituency, as it is located in the tail end of both Osmansagar and Singur water supply systems.

The Hyderabad MP, Anjan Kumar Yadav, launched the works on laying a 500 mm diameter pipeline from Narayanguda to Boggulkunta at the Boggulkunta reservoir in the heart of the city today. With inflows into the Osmansagar dwindling, Krishna water would be brought to the area to tide over the crisis.

Some 9,000 connections in Ramkoti, Badi Chowdi, parts of Begum Bazar, Goshamahal and Gunfoundry, Aghapura, Nampally, Basheerbagh and Chapel Road, besides Ashokbazar, Osmanshahi, Gowliguda Chaman, Gowliguda and parts of Feelkhana, Maharajgunj, Jambagh and surrounding areas would benefit from the pipeline scheduled to be laid by the month-end.

Drawal increases

With this, the water board would be able to draw an additional 4 MGD of water, taking the total volume of Krishna water being supplied to the city to 62 MGD. The board had spent Rs. 31 crores so far on augmenting Krishna water supplies by taking up grid strengthening works. The Krishna water volume allocated in the first phase of the Krishna drinking water supply project increased from 33 MGD to the present 58 MGD. The commissioned grid improvement works included Sahebnagar-Autonogar, which yielded 7 MGD, Hafeezbaba Nagar to Jahanuma - 10 MGD and Adikmet to Narayanguda - 5 MGD.

Interlinking work

The board Managing Director, B.P. Acharya, informed that another major interlinking work would be taken up from Adikmet to Chilkalguda and Tarnaka at an estimated cost of Rs. 16.5 crores, facilitating drawal of another 21 MGD from the Krishna. "This will be completed by mid-April, giving a major fillip to the drinking water supply position of the city," he maintained.

The water board allocated part of the Krishna water in the project's first phase to its Asmangadh, Chanchalguda, Narayanguda, Adikmet and Hussainsagar zones, covering a major chunk of the twin cities.

Congress candidate banks on minority, BC votes

HYDERABAD, APRIL 17. With just a day away for the campaigning to end, Anjan Kumar Yadav, Congress candidate from Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, exudes confidence that the five-lakh strong minority and backward class voters and a distinct anti-incumbency factor will help him to pull off a surprise victory.

In a chat after visiting Dargah Yousufian, Mr. Yadav said the TDP/BJP's plank of development would not work as it was confined to the Airport- Banjara Hills - Jubilee Hills - Madhapur stretch. Most parts of the Secunderabad constituency remained neglected with bad roads, overflowing drains, drinking water scarcity becoming a rule rather than an exception. "Most of the city funds were diverted to present this stretch as a show piece to visitors," he alleged.

Reeling under steep hike in power tariff and bus fares, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, people in the city were angry and waiting for the day of reckoning on April 20. Youth were a dejected lot, with large-scale unemployment.

As the City Congress president, he had been organising a number of public agitations against all such anti-people policies of t

~Andhra Pradesh Archaeological Museum now open for public~

SRI ANJAN KUMAR YADAV, M.P., ALONG WITH SRI G.N. RAO, I.A.S., (RETD.), SECRETARY, TOURISM INAUGURATED THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM AT HYDERABAD ON 21-1-2009. SRI CHINNA REDDY, DIRECTOR, ARCHAEOLOGY DEPARTMENT IS ALSO SEEN.

Hyderabad|India|January'2009: The Srisailam pavilion, now renamed as Andhra Pradesh Archaeological Museum located at Gunfoundry,Hyderabad has been opened for public.

The foundation stone of this Museum was laid on 5-5-1981 meant exclusively for keeping antiquties from Srisailam submergeable region, in the premises of the Directorate, Archaeology and Museums. The Yeleswaram pavilion (which previously housed antiquities recovered from Yeleswaram excavations, located on the right bank of the river Krishna in Nalgonda district) gave way for the present museum to display all objects obtained in excavations from the districts of Mahabubnagar and Kurnool. The building was completed and handed over to the Department by the Irrigation and project department, Government of Andhra Pradesh on 11-5-1988.

After the Nagarjunakonda excavations, it may be mentioned, this is the second of its kind to under take large scale salvage operations in the Srisailam submergeable area in the State of Andhra Pradesh, before the completion of Hydro Electrical project across the river Krishna near Patalaganga, Srisailam, a famous Saivate Centre. Under this project about 110 villages including hamlets were submerged covering an extent of 1,62,328 acres spread in Kurnool and Mahabubnagar districts.

Originally, it was planned to put on display all the antiquities obtained from Yeleswaram excavations and from the excavations conducted in the Srisailam submergible areas. Later on, the idea was changed to house all the antiquities obtained in all excavations conducted by the department since its inception and hence named it as Andhra Pradesh Archaeological Museum with the financial assistance extended by the Government of India and the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The present circular building which houses the museum consists of ground and first floor. In the ground floor are put on display various art objects hence is named the gallery as “Art through the ages”. It contains four sections viz., terracotta, stucco, metal and miscellaneous art forms.

Prof. P. Chenna Reddy,Director,Archaeology & Museums Department has informed that the first floor has three galleries - Pre-historic, Megalithic and Early historic. In the centre of the ground floor, stands the magnificent temple door jamb of Vijaynagara period (16th CAD) shifted from Sri Varadaraja Swamy temple, Pragatur, Mahabubnagar district one of the submerged villages of Srisailam project. It is the master piece of the final phase of Hindu architecture.

Thus the museum is the first of its kind to put on display various invaluable and priceless antiquities obtained exclusively in excavations in Andhra Pradesh belonging to hoary past, portraying civilization and culture under one single roof and thus serves both the elite and common man.

New train to Chennai flagged off

To run via Mahabubnagar, Kurnool, Cuddapah, fulfilling Rayalaseema people's dream

CONNECTIVITY ON RIGHT TRACK: Anjan Kumar Yadav, MP, flagging off the new train at Secunderabad station on Sunday.

HYDERABAD : Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav flagged off the Secunderabad-Chennai Egmore Express, the third express train to Chennai from the twin cities here on Sunday. It will run via Mahabubnagar, Kurnool and Cuddapah fulfilling a long-cherished dream of people of Rayalaseema for a direct train to Chennai.

The new train (Train No. 7052) was announced during last year's budget and it took a year for the railways to get it on the rails.

With two AC two-tier coaches, one AC three tier, nine sleeper class coaches besides two general second class compartments, it would leave Secunderabad at 3 p.m. and reach Chennai at 6.40 a.m. the next day travelling 779 km in 15 hours and 40 minutes.

Other trains

The other trains to Chennai are: Chennai Express (Train No. 7054) travels 715 km in 14 hours and five minutes traversing via Nalgonda, Nadikudi and Guntur; Charminar Express (Train No. 2760) travels 790 km in 14 hours and 10 minutes via Kazipet and Vijayawada.

Saying the recent railway budget took care of the needs of the poor, Mr. Yadav said he would meet Railway Minister Lalu Prasad shortly and explain to him the need for more projects for the region.

However, Rajya Sabha member K. Ramamohana Rao was unsparing on his criticism on the budget allocation for the SCR. "SCR tops in earnings but unfortunately it is not reflected in the new projects whether it is laying new lines, pending projects, electrification or passenger amenities.

All the MPs belonging to the State will take it up with the Railway Ministry," he said.

The State Government too should play a more pro-active role, he maintained.

SCR Divisional Railway Manager Sudhir Mittal said Secunderabad station was one of the best in country and was getting top priority in providing passenger amenities and cleanliness. Sanitation work was automated and soon it would be introduced in the trains too.

Leaving nothing to chance

Leaving nothing to chance

For politicans, elections are hectic and Anjan Kumar Yadav is no exception. But while others are busy and stay away from their families, Anjan Kumar and his family bond the most during this time. If son Anil takes care of the youth wing, younger son Arvind is

in-charge of the management. The women too chip in, with daughter Anubha and wife Nagamani manning the home front and elder daughter Anitha shifting base to her parents place, despite being married.

“Elections are an important time for us. In fact, whatever we are today is because of my father’s position. This time, we are leaving no stone unturned and want to ensure that he retains his seat,” affirms Arvind, a BA first-year student.

For Anil, elections are synonymous with a lot of work and shouldering a major part of his father’s responsibility. “Since I’m the eldest son, the expectations from me are higher. I try to make things as easy as possible for my father. It is not possible for him to be everywhere, so, I make it a point to go to places that he can’t.”

Anil, who has been to most parts of his father’s constituency and visited around 20 to 25 slums, says, “I inform people about the work that has been done and what more is possible if my father continues to be a MP. I do door-to-door campaigning and in the process, I also try to sort out people’s problems.”

Though better education and hospital facilities feature in his election agenda, it’s youth welfare that Anil focuses on. “If they put their minds to it, youngsters can bring about a change. I try to educate them about the decisive role that they can play,” reasons Anil, who had asked all pubs to shut down in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks. “I felt the attacks were a disaster and at a time like that, youngsters should shoulder some responsibility instead of partying.”

As Anil busies himself with major issues, Arvind takes up the responsibility of organising lunch for people at the constituency. “Everyday, we serve food to 2,000-3,000 people and I ensure that everyone gets to eat,” says Arvind.

Inspite of all this, Anjan Kumar Yadav, has often been criticised for not doing enough for his constituency. However, Anil feels these allegations are part of a politician’s life. “People’s expectations are high and no matter how much you do for them, they still feel it’s not enough. We don’t let such criticism bog us down, we continue to do our work,” adds Anil. The life of a politician is not easy, with brickbats and boomerangs being a constant.

This is where the women in the Yadav family step in. “My dad is quite close to me. Often, when he returns at night, we sit and discuss how the day has been for him. We share everything, and if he is upset about something, I try and cheer him,” says Anubha, the younger daughter.

However, it’s wife Nagamani, who is the binding force in the family.

“My mother also goes out canvassing with me. We talk to the women in the constituency and redress their grievances. But, she makes it a point to be back home by the time my father returns, cooks his favourite dishes and serves him dinner. It is she who ensures that everybody is comfortable after a tiring day,” adds Anubha.
