APCC marks Rajiv's death anniversary

HYDERABAD: Rajiv Gandhi's sacrifice and his commitment to secular values were recalled by the APCC leaders at various functions on his 14th death anniversary on Saturday.

Across the State, the Congress leaders garlanded the statues of Rajiv Gandhi and exhorted cadre to emulate the ideals of the late Prime Minister. The Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, who was on a tour of Visakhapatnam and North Telangana districts, called upon people to make sacrifices for the nation's development.

The AICC general secretary and incharge of AP Congress Affairs, Digvijay Singh, garlanded the statue of Rajiv Gandhi and the APCC president, K.Keshava Rao, addressed a rally at Charminar recalling the services of Rajiv Gandhi to the nation.

More relevant today

He said the values cherished by departed leader were more relevant today as the threat of communal forces had increased. The APCC Linguistic Minority Cell organised a poor feeding programme to mark the occasion. Earlier, Mr .Keshava Rao, the Home Minister, K.Jana Reddy and other office-bearers of the party garlanded Rajiv Gandhi's portrait at Gandhi Bhavan.

Government staff all over the State took the anti-terrorism pledge at 11 a.m. at their respective offices on Saturday.

They affirmed to oppose, with all their strength, all forms of terrorism and violence and fight forces disrupting human lives and values. Respective department heads led them in reading out the two-sentence pledge. In the Secretariat here, the employees belonging to the General Administration Department assembled outside the "C" block and took the pledge administered by the Special Chief Secretary, A. Raghothama Rao.
