Congress candidate banks on minority, BC votes

HYDERABAD, APRIL 17. With just a day away for the campaigning to end, Anjan Kumar Yadav, Congress candidate from Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, exudes confidence that the five-lakh strong minority and backward class voters and a distinct anti-incumbency factor will help him to pull off a surprise victory.

In a chat after visiting Dargah Yousufian, Mr. Yadav said the TDP/BJP's plank of development would not work as it was confined to the Airport- Banjara Hills - Jubilee Hills - Madhapur stretch. Most parts of the Secunderabad constituency remained neglected with bad roads, overflowing drains, drinking water scarcity becoming a rule rather than an exception. "Most of the city funds were diverted to present this stretch as a show piece to visitors," he alleged.

Reeling under steep hike in power tariff and bus fares, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, people in the city were angry and waiting for the day of reckoning on April 20. Youth were a dejected lot, with large-scale unemployment.
